Senior Electrical Engineer – Alexandria, VA

This role involves managing a team of Electrical engineers at various levels, including senior, mid-level, and entry-level members. The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams to complete studies and develop plans and specifications for a wide range of projects. Standard responsibilities include design, analysis, planning, and facilities assessments.

The ideal candidate will be a licensed Professional Engineer with a minimum of 10 years of experience in Electrical engineering, specifically in building electrical systems and electrical infrastructure, including low- and medium-voltage systems. The candidate must hold a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license, be registered with NCEES, and be able to obtain licenses in all 50 states upon request.

Duties:

  • Electrical team project assignments and staffing forecasts
  • Develop training sessions targeted at the needs of the Electrical team
  • Lead performance management evaluations and goal setting for each Electrical team member
  • Design of site and facilities Electrical, interior/exterior lighting, and telecommunications systems
  • Design of low and medium-voltage Electrical systems
  • Prepare design documents (e.g., plans and specifications) for Programming, Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction Documents
  • Provide construction phase project services
  • Perform calculations to support design work (short circuit, voltage drop, building loads, etc.)
  • Participate in Value Engineering exercises
  • Assist in the preparation of project proposals in response to solicitations
  • Prepare technical reports
  • Some travel will be involved
  • Experience in managing or leading MEP-related projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Ensure proper staff are assigned and utilized on their projects.
  • Reviews project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Leads successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client).
  • Contributes to the successful delivery and performance of projects
  • Cultivates relationships with clients and holds strong relationships with clients
  • Take active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients, and may be responsible for a stated portion of the office sales goal. Assists and/or leads team in pursuit of new work (repeat work, SOQ, and Proposals). Develops and/or executes the project Win strategy.
  • Understands and follows QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.
  • Actively engages and participates in the training, coaching, and mentoring of junior staff
  • Understands duties and responsibilities, possesses necessary job knowledge and technical skills, and maintains current job knowledge

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering
  • Licensed PE, registration in Virginia is preferred (other registrations attainable via NCEES)
  • Minimum 10 years of related experience
  • Extensive knowledge of the National Electrical Code
  • Knowledge and experience with USACE UFC criteria and UFGS specifications
  • Healthcare, municipal, institutional, transportation, and industrial facilities design experience
  • Experience with high-performance sustainable systems design
  • Solar/PV system design experience is a plus
  • Experience with central utility plants, emergency power systems.
  • Broad knowledge of building and energy codes (IBC, IECC, IFGC, ASHRAE 90.1) and NFPA standards/codes
  • Experience in Design-Build project delivery
  • Proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency with EasyPower, SKM, or ETAP power systems analysis software

Salary Range: $130,000 - $160,000 (based on experience)
